Why choose us
Choosing the right fertility clinic is important. Here are some of the most crucial things to consider when making your decision.
1. History of continued success
The Lister Fertility Clinic, the UK's largest private IVF unit, has just celebrated its 29th anniversary. Since it opened in 1988, over 16,500 babies have been born from private fertility treatment with us. We have maintained consistently excellent IVF success rates while empowering patients to make decisions and ensuring a relaxed atmosphere at a potentially difficult time.
2. The Lister philosophy: not all fertility clinics are the same
Fertility clinics have different criteria on who they are willing to treat, based on factors like age, markers of low ovarian reserve (such as FSH and AMH Levels) and previous treatment history.
Our philosophy is to treat all patients with a potential to succeed. After discussing your personal history and performing tests to investigate FSH and AMH levels, we give clear and realistic information about your individual chances of success using our Lister Fertility Clinic Pregnancy Calculator.
At the Lister Fertility Clinic we don't believe that the final decision on whether to treat should be ours alone: as long as we have accurately advised patients of their chances, those with a low likelihood of success should also be offered fertility treatment if they wish.
Many patients are successful, often after being declined fertility treatment elsewhere. For some, being allowed to try treatment and failing may be part of an acceptance process that may allow other avenues to be explored. Patients can attend as many counseling sessions as they need.
You can use the Pregnancy Calculator to work out your own chances of success in our fertility clinic before your appointment. Our IVF success rates are transparent, clear and consistently amongst the best in the country.
We strive to maximise patient safety by minimising the multiple pregnancy rate. As we treat all patients with high and low potential this inevitably affects the overall success rates. For example, over the last two years, over 39% of the women we treat have a low ovarian reserve compared to the national average of 11%.
Fertility clinic success rates can be found on the HFEA website, but they can be difficult to compare and interpret for many reasons e.g. differing fertility treatments offered, differing patient groups treated, differing clinic selection criteria and stringency of data submitted.
4. The team
Although you will have your own consultant at the Lister Fertility Clinic, who personally plans and leads your care, we very much work as a team at all levels (doctors, nurses and embryologists). Each doctor is a highly qualified gynaecologist with specialist fertility training who can manage all aspects of sub-fertility. However, each doctor will also have a particular area of interest / research and the team is proud of its depth of knowledge.
5. Access to your doctor
We know how hard the fertility treatment can be. We take the unusual step of offering email access direct to your consultant. Our nursing team also offers email and telephone support. Although not a replacement for a consultation, particularly for more complicated queries, the ability to contact a staff member is invaluable.
Lister Fertility Clinic Director, Hossam Abdalla is one of the UK's most distinguished IVF practitioners and one of the country's pioneers in fertility medicine and, together with his team, he has made a huge difference to the lives of many thousands of people. Together with his public role at the HFEA, he has made a major contribution to the regulation and quality of IVF medicine nationwide.
7. Cutting edge care
Our recently expanded laboratory offers the most modern fertility treatment advances to patients. We offer IMSI which allows better selection of sperm for treatment, CGH for genetic testing of embryos to either improve success rates or exclude known medical problems as well as time-lapse imaging techniques to improve embryo selection.
We also offer tests to exclude causes of recurrent miscarriage and implantation failure such as immune (Natural Killer) testing.
We perform 3D pelvic scans and offer surgical expertise to diagnose or treat surgical problems causing fertility issues.
8. Monday to Sunday
We operate a 7-day service that ensures the timings of critical events such as egg collection and embryo transfer can occur when it is truly best for you, rather than when it suits the clinic. Similarly we open early to allow as many people as possible to have scans at times that minimise disruption to work or childcare responsibilities.
During the course of your fertility treatment, you are likely to need to visit us 5-8 times. The Lister Fertility Clinic is easily accessed via overground train, tube and bus, thereby minimising disruption to your daily activities.
It is important to consider the cost of private IVF treatment when making decisions about which private fertility clinic to use. The Lister Fertility Clinic is not the cheapest fertility clinic in the UK, but we believe we offer value for money from our IVF prices. Our prices are transparent.
IVF is expensive and treatment costs vary depending on a number of factors. Our private fertility treatment cycle costs include all scans, nurse consultations, embryological lab work, theatre and medical costs.
Although we offer the most up to date investigations, no two situations are the same. One size does not fit all so your fertility treatment will be specifically tailored to your needs to minimise unnecessary expenditure.
