Lister Fertility Clinic took part in 2018’s Fertility Fest

Lister Fertility Clinic were proud to sponsor this year’s Fertility Fest - the world's first arts festival dedicated to fertility, infertility, modern families and the science of making babies.

Led by arts producers and former IVF patients, this year's festival brought together more than 150 world class artists and fertility experts in a unique programme of discussion and debate about what it means to make (and sometimes not make) babies in the modern world.

The event, which took place at The Bush theatre last weekend, provided a rare space to explore the emotional journey behind clinical treatment, as well the bigger societal questions that reproductive science is now raising.

Lister Fertility Clinic’s own Dr James Nicopoullos was involved in the event on Friday, which brought together clinicians, artists and former IVF Patients to discuss the implications of ‘the doctor in the bedroom’, and how this can impact upon the couple trying to conceive.

Dr James Nicopoullos was joined on stage by Chair of the British Fertility Society Dr Jane Stewart, photographer Sophie Ingleby, who has been documenting the journey of the fertility patients for over a year in her project SEED, and author Izzy Judd who read excerpts from her memoir. The event was chaired by BBC Reporter Sophie Sulehria, who recently documented her experience with Lister Fertility Clinic as part of her series ‘Our Fertility Journey’ for BBC Radio 4’s PM programme. The session included an emotional video presentation that documented a number of personal stories of those struggling with their fertility, as well as an insightful Q&A from the audience.

Dr Nicopoullos spoke about the importance of the clinic’s involvement in projects such as Fertility Fest, stating that the weekend helped “educate, stimulate debate and help improve patient care in a unique and exciting way.”

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in Fertility Fest, including all the artists, clinicians and contributors for organising a unique and successful weekend! To find out more about the project, visit the website here: https://www.fertilityfest.com/
